How the Pieces Move -- The Bishop

Bishops move in straight lines, any number of squares, along the diagonals. Observe the diagram below this paragraph. The white bishop may move in a straight line along the northwesterly or southeasterly (assuming north is up) diagonals any number of squares, up to the edge of the board. The white bishop may also move along the northeasterly diagonal any number of squares, up to and including the square directly before the square which houses the white knight. The white bishop may also move along the southwesterly diagonal any number of squares, up to and including the square directly before the square which houses the black rook; or the white bishop may capture the black rook by removing the black rook from the board and moving into the square which the black rook previously occupied. Notice that a bishop which starts the game on a dark square will never be able to reach a light square, nor vice versa.
