Don't be fooled by the even material or the bishops of opposite colors; both king's are in very precarious positions!

Black threatens mate on the move with either 1...Qe4 or 1...Qd1.  Too bad for Black that it is White to move!

1.h4+

White could draw with the perpetual check line 1.Qe7+ Kg6 2.Qe6 or 2.Qe8 and neither side will be able to make any headway.

A mistake, however, would be 1.Qg8+ Kh4 2.g3+ Kxh3

Analysis Diagram: after 2...Kxh3

when White has run out of useful checks and will be mated shortly.

Back to the main line position:

1...Kh5

1...Kxh4 is met by 2.Qxh6#

2.Qxf5+ Kxh4

Black's king has been forced onto the square White needs him to be at.

3.Qg4#
