Some combinations start quietly, in this case
with an apparently equal exchange - knight for knight.
1...Bxf6
Now the real target becomes apparent - h7 is
no longer protected by Black's knight, while White has his
pieces poised for a massive kingside invasion! It remains
only to breach the lines...
2.Bxh7+
A clearance sacrifice, clearing the h-file for
operations by White's rook.
2...Kh8
Black doesn't bite on the bishop, as after
2...Kxh7 3.Rh3+ Kg8 4.Qh5 mate cannot be stopped.
3.Rh3
Preparing a deadly discovered check.
3...g6 4.Bxg6+ Kg7 5.Qg4
With another discovered check in hand.
Also very effective is 5.Rh7+ Kg8 6.Bc2 Rfe8 7.Qg4+ Kf8
8.Rxf7+ etc.
5...Nxe5 6.Rh7+
Also winning is 6.fxe5 fxg6 7.Bh6+ Kg8 8.Rf1+-
6...Kg8 7.fxe5
7...fxg6
Forced after which the material imbalance will
easily tell in White's favor. All else leads directly to
mate: 7...Rfd8 8.Bxf7+ Kf8 9.Qg8+ Ke7 10.Bxe6+ Bg7 11.Rxg7#;
or 7...Bg7 8.Rxg7+ Kxg7 9.Be4+ Kh8 10.Qh5+ Kg7 11.Qh7#
