Problem of the Week
2007.05.13

White to move and win
[need a hint?]
[Solution]

White to move &
win
1.Bxg7 Black can't capture the bishop:
1...Rxg7 and 2.Re7 breaks the communication between the black queen and
the g7-rook: 2...Qxe7 3.Qxe7 Rxg3 4.Qxd8+ etc.
1...Qb8

Now White takes advantage of the discovered check.
2.Bxf6+ Qxg3 His only option really. 2...Rg7
3.Rxg7+ Kh8 4.Rg6 is mate.

Black can throw in the towel here, a sample line might go something
like:
3.fxg3 Rxf6 4.Qg5+ Kf7 5.Qh5+ Kf8 6.Qxh7 Re8 7.Qh8+ Kf7 8.Qh5+ Kf8
9.Rxe8+ Bxe8 10.Qc5+ Kf7 11.Qxd4 etc.
