In this position, White is all set for a perpetual check based on the queen repeatedly checking on a5 and d8.  The only problem is Black's queen, which guards the a5 square.  White employs the tactical device known as deflection, and deflects the queen away from her post.

1.Qd8+ Ka7 2.Re2!








The Queen can no longer stay on the a5-e1 diagonal.  2...Qxe2 3.Qa5+ and since Black can not escape the checks, he offers the draw.
