| The XIX edition of the Magistral Ciudad de León Chess
Tournament saw its dream final. Veselin Topalov, World Chess Champion, faced Viswanathan Anand - many times winner of the tournament.
Both GMs, the only active chess players that surpass the 2800 ELO rating
frontier, have been many years in the top places of the world chess ranking,
but Kasparov´s retirement last year started a duel between them to
find out who is the number one. Since then, Topalov has won many tournaments:
winner of Linares & Sofia 2005 and World Chess Champion in San Luis 2005. This year, Anand & Topalov tied for 1st place at Wijk aan Zee; besides that
Veselin has kept his supremacy after winning this year's Sofia
super tournament. |

Torneo Magistral de León vive esta tarde la final soñada, Veselin
Topalov Campeón Mundial se mide al tantas veces campeón en León Viswanathan
Anand. Ambos grandes maestros, los únicos que actualmente superan los 2800
puntos Elo, llevan ya muchos años en los primeros puestos del ranking
mundial, pero la retirada de Kasparov el año pasado abrió un duelo entre los
dos para dirimir quien es el número uno. Desde entonces Topalov ha
encadenado un triunfo tras otro: ganador en Linares y Sofia 2005 y campeón
mundial en San Luis 2005. En 2006 Anand y Topalov han empatado en el primer
