Chessville
A chess site by and for chessplayers!

A Passion For Chess

Passion.  That’s how it all started, with a passion for chess.  That passion brought together three friends and one great idea.  That passion grew the idea, nourished it, crafted it, and encouraged it.  And the Chessville community continues to grow.  What started as an idea for a weekly ezine now encompasses an entire web site filled with information, instruction, and just plain old fun.  Oh yes - there’s still plenty of passion, too!

The best teachers are the best communicators.

"It's generally - but erroneously - assumed that the best teachers are the best players,
and that the best players can easily communicate the secrets of the game.
Actually, the best teachers are often just interested amateurs."
-  GM Andrew Soltis

While Masters, IMs, and GMs may have the fancy titles, high ratings, fame, and the greatest respect of the chess world at large, it is the “chess proletariat” which overwhelmingly comprises the largest percentage of the chess information consumer demographic.  That is why Chessville has been created by and for the aspiring chess amateur, and why we continue to grow:

(As of March, 2007)

We are, however, victims of our own success.  While our growth continues to delight us, the demand for new and instructive chess material outstrips our ability to keep pace with that demand, while still servicing and maintaining our existing materials.  Plus it cuts into the time available for preparation of each week's newsletter.  We need your help!

Do you have what it takes?

Do you share our passion for the Royal Game?  Would you be willing to commit some regular effort, and as little as 20 minutes or more each week to help share that passion with others?  Chessville needs your help!  We have a variety of volunteer opportunities available, areas where you can become the specialist.  Not only will you have the thrill of seeing your name associated with Chessville, you will have the satisfaction of giving back to the game that has given us all so much.  Or you may have some ideas of your own for unique ways to contribute.  Won't you please checkout the specific opportunities we've identified below, and contact us with your ideas?  Chessville - and the chess community - needs your help!

Will you join the Chessville Team?
