Tournament News:
Nigel Short recorded his best victory in a long time,
finishing in clear first with 6½ points out of 9. The decisive game
of the tournament was Short's victory against Judit Polgar in round
8. Judit still managed to finish in 2nd with 5½ points, primarily
thanks to starting the tournament with three victories in a row.
World Championship contender, Peter Leko, managed to stage a brief
recovery to finish in 3rd,
despite losing to Peter Lutz who is rated nearly 150 points lower than he
is.

Fantasy Chess News:
Rod Weis (Canada) managed to hold onto his half point lead
to be the winner of the Budapest 2003 Fantasy Chess

had existed for the last few days of the tournament between Rod and
various others at the top. Here is Rod's winning team:
White Wins: Short (6)
Black Wins: Polgar (4)
White Losses: Berkes (2)
Black Losses: Lutz (4)
Bonus Player 1: Leko (5)
Bonus Player 2: Acs (4.5) |
