Jude Acers at 64
The Man in the Red Beret
k
eeps on keeping on!

Jude Acers, The Man in the Red Beret, celebrated his 64th birthday, ironically the number of squares on the chess board, doing what he does best:  playing chess!

Acers, chess master, author, teacher, top ranked U.S. player at the 2007 Senior World Open, and two-time Guinness Book of World Records holder for simultaneous play gave a free chess lecture and simultaneous chess exhibition to all challengers on April 6, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. at Esplanade Mall in Kenner (New Orleans), Louisiana.

Acers beginning play against the Lynch family.

Royden Lynch, Sr., President of Computrols (www.computrols.com), sponsored and organized the event.  Gwen Lynch assisted with the organization of the event and also organized Acers’ birthday celebration.

Thirty-one players challenged The Man in the Red Beret in this “once-in-a-lifetime, memorable” event.

The Last Man Standing was R. J. Tagorda, a freshman at Tulane University and chess coach for Christian Brothers and Stewart Hall schools in New Orleans.

Isidore Newman’s eighth grade chess team, which included second-grader, Royden Lynch, Jr., finished first at the 2008 Louisiana State Scholastic Championship.  In honor of Lynch, Jr., Acers will give a free chess lecture and simultaneous exhibition at Isidore Newman School in New Orleans in September, 2008.  The event is free, open to the public, and all challenges are welcome.

Acers’ goal is to expose as many children as possible to the game of chess.  Acers learned to play chess at the age of seven, and the “King of Games changed his life forever!”  Additionally, Acers desires to give back to the community and is looking for corporate sponsors to host his third Guinness Book of World Records event at the Superdome in New Orleans where he intends to challenge 500 players!

For some the excitement
is nearly overwhelming...

...while for others the
excitement is too much to bear.

"A master on the board he is, but his true mastery is how he works with children.  Because of Jude, chess is a family outing!"

- Royden Lynch
