30 September 2010 Khanty-Mansiysk Press-release №12 Russia is unstoppable in the women's section Russian women team won the 9th
match in a row at the 39th Chess Olympiad in Khanty-Mansiysk.
With just two rounds to go they are 4 points ahead of the nearest
competitor, and nobody seems to doubt their overall victory. In the 9th round Russia-1 was a bit lucky – the score against Serbia was 1,5-1,5, and Nadezhda Kosintseva had a bad position. However, after five hours of play Kosintseva not only managed to survive, but also won the game and secured the match! The main medal contenders also won their matches: Georgia defeated Russia-2 with a minimal margin, and China won 3-1 against Hungary. Ukraine crushed Croatia 3,5-0,5. After 9 rounds Russia-1 has 18 points, and five teams have 14 points – China, Ukraine, Georgia, India, and Bulgaria. Standings after Round 9 - Women's Section
On October 10 the following matches will be played: Russia-Bulgaria, India-China, Georgia-Ukraine, Serbia-Russia-2, and Armenia-Poland.
One point behind the leader are Russia-1 and France. The Russians won their match against the defending champions – Armenia. In the key game of the encounter Peter Svidler defeated Gabriel Sargissian. In other top matches France won against Georgia, Israel defeated Hungary, and China won against Cuba. the 10th round Ukraine plays against France. Other important
matches are China-Russia-1, USA-Israel, Spain-Georgia, Serbia-Poland,

The
struggle in the open section of the Olympiad became tenser – all six matches
in the leading group ended in +1 victories. The leaders, Ukraine,
defeated Azerbaijan and maintained the first place. Vassily Ivanchuk
lost to Shakhriyar Mamedyarov, however, Vassily's teammates Pavel Eljanov
and Zakhar Efimenko avenged him by beating Rauf Mamedov and Eltaj Safarli.
