Reader Stephen Brady writes:

"I have an old chess clock that I have owned it for about 8 years now.  I bought it at a local (Chattanooga) antique dealer who purchased it in England and sold it as a 1930's Swiss-made clock.

It does indeed have the Swiss Made mark on it.  I have searched high and low and have not found another set or clock like it.  The set has the leather case, with the clock, red and black stamps for each of the chess pieces, and a stamp pad to record the position.

At the bottom of the pad is 'CHESS REVIEW, 134 W. 72nd ST., N.Y. 23, N.Y. there is also a pamphlet titled 'REVISED INTERNATIONAL LAWS OF CHESS' WEIBEL CHAMPAGNE VINEYARDS EDITION.

I took it to a clock repair shop and had the lenses replaced with crisper lens, but I still have the original (yellowed) lenses that can be reinserted in the faces.  The watchmaker said inside on the clockwork were the inscriptions ' Liga Watch Co.' 'Factory Ltd.' 'Swiss made' '1-J' and ' bridge 440' .

I did find some info on the Liga Watch Co, but no mention of them making chess clocks.  I love chess and this clock is my favorite piece in my collection.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks for your time and I look forward to hearing from you, Stephen"

Frank K.
